ALIENS
(the language trap)
A group of very large figures in a circle. The figures are 3m50 high and float vertically above the ground. The figures will not be revealed but are implied through the form of the blue shrouds of blue plastic. The shrouds are held together with tie wraps.

Materials
The figures are made of cardboard and tape, constructed using a pattern. After finding a satisfactory, unique form for each figure, they will be filled with polyurethane foam to reinforce the monocoque shell. Combined, they make a light weight solid form. The figures are transient agglomerations. Arte Povera.
Blue
The blue bags catch the light of the sun and reflect like a blue sea. There is a contradiction between the beauty of the blue and the distorted bodies inside. Each form is an awful ready-made, proof that beauty can be found in transience.
Inside these blue shrouds is the final secret… The limbs of each figure are combined and fixed in their unique positions before being enclosed in blue. The position of each figure is a hanging pose. A crucifixion? or a deposition and an ascension at the same time. I am reminded of the Burgers of Calais by Rodin. In this circle separation ends, suffering ends. The contents are universal but totally subjective. There is nothing grand about finding beauty here. Beauty from transience.
Calais could be the location.
A purpose for art cannot be found in the outside world. This function can only be found inside the bag, without referring to the imaginings of others.
Ready mades reveal themselves. If I let this go, what will remain? If everything goes, what will remain?
