NURSERY

THE CONCEPT

Piles showing the eye of a vortex are made using a vortex machine. Loose particles are arranged on the floor.  At the centre of every movement is stillness. One pile is left untouched. One pile is made of lighter weight particles allowing the creation of a vortex with two “eyes”. The entire floor of a large exhibition space can be precisely covered with vortex eyes.

A second piece “FOR EVER” stands next to the installation. This is a constant water vortex. It is a closed system and the motion is “continuous”. It catalyses the floor installation.

THE MAKING OF…

Using a closed cylinder with a motor an updraft is created. A vortex forms above each individual pile of loose particles (rice in this case). Each pile contains the same mass of material.
